Pulitzer Prize–winning author Matthew Desmond wrote the book ‘Poverty, by America’. In spite of being the richest country of the world, why there are more poverty than most other developed counties in United States of America? He wrote that it is also a country in which ‘millions of poor people live alongside millions of rich ones’. Social scientist author thinks that rest of the people are benefited from it and it is one of the reasons behind the existence of poverty. He mentioned that one of every eight of its children have limitations of basic necessities in America.

In this research work, the author finds out that rich Americans knowingly or unknowingly keep poor people poor. They do it by providing inadequate wages to the workers and on the contrary workers are charged high for housing and other stuff. The author has focused on the limitations of the social system like state provides different facilities to those who are more secured in the society but it requires to the people those who are leading miserable life. Many families in America who live in poverty spend more than half of their income on housing, leaving little money for other necessities such as food, healthcare, and education. Some lives are made small so that others may grow.
This book points out some important situations or reasons behind the huge discrimination in the American society. And there by it indicates the way of solution to dissolve selfish characteristics of the society.
