Capitalism and Freedom

Writer: Milton Friedman

Milton Friedman in his book ‘Capitalism and Freedom’ presents the way to achieve economic freedom through competitive capitalism by creating necessary conditions for political freedom. According to Friedman, economic freedom protects common people from discrimination as market cannot change anything itself. Author also emphasize on government role to establish law, order and property rights. Author thinks that free market has lots of positive contributions in America and all over the world. The government should realize it and should create proper environment for free market.

History only suggests that capitalism is a necessary condition for political freedom. Clearly it is not a sufficient condition.

‘Capitalism and Freedom’ was selected by Time magazine as one of the top 100 non-fiction books in 2011. It was first published in 1962 in English and then it was translated in 18 other languages. A million copies of English version of ‘Capitalism and Freedom’ were sold. In America, this book had a great influence in the movement of libertarian philosophy.
